Microsoft is stirring up the internet with Mango. Their new operating system for Windows Phone 7.

The 7 series phone (with no mango) has taken a little bit to take off. They have reached over 18000 apps and are climbing rather quickly. GCS has kept a Samsung Focus (Win7 Phone) around for testing. Paul and I have recently switched back to the 7 platform as our main devices. It’s really nice and very easy to navigate. The outlook, word, excel, and one note integration are very nice.

The hard part now is waiting on Mango to be released. We are a developer and hoping that we see a beta release of the new os for our Focus’s. Fingers crossed! If Microsoft plays this right and could find a way to beat the Iphone launch they could have major success. We are afraid if the Iphone 5 releases first consumers will head that direction. I have moved back to the Iphone several times but am so tired of Apple. Tired of the fragmentation of Android as well. The Blackberry’s are not for me either. Come on Microsoft! Show the world what we have been waiting for!

Just got done downloading all the files and mistakenly downloaded the wrong RUU update. Looks like i needed to download the 1.47 download on this page.

http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Supersonic/

I downloaded the first file in the list and it did not update, I am coming from Cyanogen MOD 6 the 7-24 nightly (before the RC1), anyways it looks like its going now. I did have an error in the program waiting on the bootloader, I had to cancel the update and then restart the program, leaving the phone in its RUU state. After I relaunched the installer program the ROM install went flawlessly, i am now unrooted stock

Forgot how to get into the Evo Recovery, been using A-RA for so long now, anyways had to look it up. To get to the bootloader, press Volume UP and power, then power again, wait for the flash then use Volume down to select Recovery and press power. Wait for the intimidating Red Exclamation point (looks like a serious error has happened), then its Volume UP and power again to get to the flash update screen. Select the option for update.zip and your good to go.

This just in Engadget just reported that Froyo has been removed from the download servers. The report is that it is not a Finished rom… More info here…

http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/30/evo-4gs-froyo-firmware-now-available-for-download-manual-insta/

Just Finished 2.2 Booting Now!

GCS will not be held responsible for bricked or damaged phones. Use at your OWN RISK. This is the official update. I had a rooted EVO. I got the Supersonic Ru original rom and restored my phone back to stock for now. I then downloaded the update and placed on my sd card on phone. I put it in the root. Power phone down. Hold power button and volume up. Launch fastboot then wait a few seconds then go to recovery. Flash zip from sd.

I went back to stock like I said and found the original supersonic ruu rom’s here. http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Supersonic/

Official download is available here.

http://www.galvestoncs.com/files/update.zip

I thought it was strange that the file was only 88 meg so I was a little nervous while installing. I verified the files and like I said I’ve installed it and it works perfectly.

We have proven without a doubt that call quality is still a problem with the case (bumpers) on the phone. It’s insanity. One of our employees, Jerimy, downgraded back to his Iphone 3gs. As soon as he did call quality drastically increased. We were experiencing bad distortion during calls about every minute or so and when using bluetooth it came across much worse. Now with Jerimy back on his previous phone we now know that we have to start returning these.

Don’t buy a new Iphone. This is a not a Apple bashing blog. We have been happy customers for from day one. What’s bad here is that we are sure they were well aware of these issues. If you remember the wifi outage during the keynote for Steve Jobs we are pretty sure he was simply holding his phone wrong.

Here at work being the nerds we are anxiously awaited the new Iphone 4. I woke up early on the day of preordering to make sure we would get ours on the 24th! It was like Christmas here as we awaited our new toys. Somehow the phones shipped early and to our surprise we received ours a day early.

Our employees use their iphones primarily for work. Buying the new Iphone 4 was a no brainer and the Iphone 3GS has been a fantastic phone. We found out quickly though that the new Iphone 4 is very flawed. Starting with reception. The concept of the antennas being on the outside of the case seemed obviously like they would improve all reception. This back fired. If you hold your new Iphone incorrectly you short your reception and interfere will cell network and wifi. Bluetooth is terrible and very scratchy. Facetime works once in a while. Very little Ios4 Application support which will change but that is a entirely different subject as the way multitasking has been implemented in my opinion is terrible.

We called Apple Tech Support and were told that we were holding the phone incorrectly. They were aware of the issue. That a case would help. We bought cases and it definitely corrects the problems there for the most part. With case on though bluetooth seems even worse. Being computer technicians we need our hands free so a phone that doesn’t sound good over bluetooth won’t work for us. Also note Apple has nevered sold cases before that they made. All of a sudden they are selling bumpers. They were aware of this issue before shipping the phones. Only think we can think is that the phones were already made and they figured they would deal with it later.

Today I feel almost as if I have gone thru a divorce. I have never been a big fan of Apple computers even though that is what I first got familiar with when I was younger. I became a huge Apple fan after the Iphone was released. We have owned the very first iphone, the Iphone 3g, the 3gs, and now the Iphone 4. After 4 miserable frustrating days of fighting with the new Iphone 4 I broke down and bought a HTC EVO and had my number ported to Sprint. I have to know that my phone is going to work.

While the HTC EVO is definitely a amazing phone it doesn’t pack the application support that the Iphone does. Everything I need for work is in the EVO but I had to sacrifice the gaming quality and so other fun apps. As a phone the EVO is loud and clear. The EVO had bugs on their launch day, which they admitted too, they pushed updates and all of them are fixed. Apple is yet to publicly announce their flaws and basically have blamed the users for holding the phone wrong.

We are very disappointed. Apple has gotten big, but not big enough for users to overlook these kind of flaws. I personally may feel quite different if they would openly admit what is wrong and let everyone know that they are working on it. Their arrogance has bitten them in the butt on this launch. For me I won’t be back and we are now trying to decide what to do with employee phones. Thank God for ATT’s 30 day buyer’s remorse. My days of being nickel and dimed in the Apple Store are over. I have to admit I will miss my phone but at the same time am very happy with the Evo and the way it presents by business life to me.

See new Temp picture up above. We just started getting this on a new Iphone 4 after 5 days of use. Phone was inside in cool area working just fine turned on and this is what was there.

Post your replies today. We are interested in hearing what you have to say!

Tried listening to music, heard silence. Tried looking through pictures, saw question marks. Tried using an application, its life was short lived. Nothing worked correctly. The absence of everything that should’ve been suddenly outweighed the joy felt only minutes before. Now everything is gone. Having to start over wasn’t anticipated nor wanted. Oh sure, everything works now. It should have worked to begin with.

Having an Apple iPhone, and being an owner of one for three years, has always been a decent experience. Owning the first generation and the 3gs hasn’t caused any trouble, until now.

The only complaint against the 3gs, for me, was the lack of personalization. You couldn’t make it your own. The 4os update shone some light for me. You could put apps together, pick your own homescreen background, ect. The night upon installing the update, worry was the last thing thought of. Never having a problem/complaint before, why should there be? Minutes after the installed completed, regret instantly set in.

Music wouldn’t play correctly. Being my favorite part of the iPhone, listening to some music was first to check. The very first song tapped came up like it was going to begin playing, then would play another song. You couldn’t go back. If you tried to tap it again, it would do the exact thing over again. Over 100 songs did not play at all, most of which, were favorites. Problem number one.

Pictures were missing. Being a photographer, a thousand plus photos were taken with the iPhone camera. Going through them and realizing some were missing equaled a very bad thing. Some pictures were just replaced, in their place was a mocking, grey question mark. Problem number two.

Applications wouldn’t stay open. Facebook, Sudoku, Pandora, iPod, Funny Pics, nothing would stay open for certain periods of time. Dying then using their lifeless hands to drag me back to the homescreen. Problem number three.

Multitasking, neat idea, dumb setup. The new multitasking function worked well. Listening to Pandora while socializing on Facebook defiantly brought a slight smile to my disappointed face. Too bad apple didn’t realize that if you keep seven or eight applications open at a time, you will, one, kill your, already useless, battery, and two, cause you to lose available space on your phone, resulting in, you got it, crashed applications. Problem number four.

After that looking for a solution became the main priority. Syncing the phone didn’t help, it wouldn’t see neither the music nor the pictures. Problem number five.

Restoring the phone seemed like a long shot, but it had to work. At least it would force the iPhone to “re-see” the music and pictures. Luckily, for me, it worked. Unluckily, for apple, whatever stupidity caused them to release an update like that has opened new doors for me. Sprints new Evo is looking pretty good right about now. Which brings me to problem number six. The $325 cancellation fee. Apple and AT&T, a match made in hell.
