Tried listening to music, heard silence. Tried looking through pictures, saw question marks. Tried using an application, its life was short lived. Nothing worked correctly. The absence of everything that should’ve been suddenly outweighed the joy felt only minutes before. Now everything is gone. Having to start over wasn’t anticipated nor wanted. Oh sure, everything works now. It should have worked to begin with.
Having an Apple iPhone, and being an owner of one for three years, has always been a decent experience. Owning the first generation and the 3gs hasn’t caused any trouble, until now.
The only complaint against the 3gs, for me, was the lack of personalization. You couldn’t make it your own. The 4os update shone some light for me. You could put apps together, pick your own homescreen background, ect. The night upon installing the update, worry was the last thing thought of. Never having a problem/complaint before, why should there be? Minutes after the installed completed, regret instantly set in.
Music wouldn’t play correctly. Being my favorite part of the iPhone, listening to some music was first to check. The very first song tapped came up like it was going to begin playing, then would play another song. You couldn’t go back. If you tried to tap it again, it would do the exact thing over again. Over 100 songs did not play at all, most of which, were favorites. Problem number one.
Pictures were missing. Being a photographer, a thousand plus photos were taken with the iPhone camera. Going through them and realizing some were missing equaled a very bad thing. Some pictures were just replaced, in their place was a mocking, grey question mark. Problem number two.
Applications wouldn’t stay open. Facebook, Sudoku, Pandora, iPod, Funny Pics, nothing would stay open for certain periods of time. Dying then using their lifeless hands to drag me back to the homescreen. Problem number three.
Multitasking, neat idea, dumb setup. The new multitasking function worked well. Listening to Pandora while socializing on Facebook defiantly brought a slight smile to my disappointed face. Too bad apple didn’t realize that if you keep seven or eight applications open at a time, you will, one, kill your, already useless, battery, and two, cause you to lose available space on your phone, resulting in, you got it, crashed applications. Problem number four.
After that looking for a solution became the main priority. Syncing the phone didn’t help, it wouldn’t see neither the music nor the pictures. Problem number five.
Restoring the phone seemed like a long shot, but it had to work. At least it would force the iPhone to “re-see” the music and pictures. Luckily, for me, it worked. Unluckily, for apple, whatever stupidity caused them to release an update like that has opened new doors for me. Sprints new Evo is looking pretty good right about now. Which brings me to problem number six. The $325 cancellation fee. Apple and AT&T, a match made in hell.
